I imagine it’s probably closest to the rolls bake time, maybe?

The bread bowls turned out perfectly. We filled them with chunky tomato soup with mozzarella cheese melted over the tops. Delicious. Thank you for this very fun recipe for delicious bread bowls.
I did have to add several teaspoons more of bread flour to get the dough from being a super sticky mass clinging to the sides of the bowl to transform into a scoupable but still sticky dough I could form into a ball for the rise. I measured and weighed carefully before starting.

I did 2 bowl batches side by side – I used 7oz of finely home shredded Kraft flavored cheddar to one batch – we could not tell a difference except that the batch with cheese was more flat – no matter we enjoyed them anyway!
Thank you!

We haven’t tested adding cheese to this dough, Page! We would love to hear how it goes if you do.

I made these for Christmas Eve to have as bowls for my Chili – BIG BIG hit!
Question – I’ve been asked to make them again – do you think I could add some finely home shredded cheddar cheese to the recipe?
Thank you!

I use this almost weekly to make 2 round loaves. the only change I have made to the recipe is to use honey instead of sugar and browned butter instead of the melted butter.

To get the dough to rise I use a seedling heater mat with a thermostat (available from local nursery or online) set to the desired temperature, place it in a cooler that is a good size to place it in. Prop open the lid enough to keep the lid from pinching the wires. Cover the cooler with a towel. Check the dough after 30-45 minutes to determine if it has doubled. This works great if your kitchen is cold enough to prevent the dough from rising.
